Through its fellowship program, the ADA Resource Center for Equity and Accessibility seeks to increase awareness of proactive disability inclusion and to foster work that thoughtfully impacts, promotes, educates, broadens and changes societal understanding of disability inclusion and supports the core institutional value of inclusion overall.  All fellows’ work will align with and support this broad mission.  The ADA30th Disability Inclusion Fellowship will focus on supporting this broad mission as it applies to the ADA Resource Center for Equity and Accessibility’s 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act Celebration.    

Key Accomplishments:

  • Organized and participated in a two-day conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities act which included seven panels, eighteen speakers, and 2,000 audience members over zoom.
  • Revitalized social media accounts increasing the following by 300%.
  • Developed and executed a comprehensive training program over special interest topics by setting up partnerships with local disability advocacy organizations to supply guest speakers for seminars
    resulting in over 100 disability advocacy initiatives implemented on campus.

Job Duties

  • ADA30th Celebration with Judith Heumann  – 15% job duty
    • Develop campus-wide education and outreach campaign on the impact of the ADA
    • Develop campus-wide education and outreach campaign on the impact of Judy Heumann
    • Develop campus-wide, national Social Media campaign on ADA and Judith Heumann
    • Organization and outreach support of the ADA30th Anniversary Celebration Event
    • Develop quarterly ADA RCEA Newsletter
  • Mentoring Circles for Disability Inclusion Program – 20% job duty
    • Assist in program assessment and modification based on feedback from participants and other data/evidence
    • Assist in development of curriculum for cohort III
    • Develop and Prepare Guidebook, materials for trainings
    • Facilitate organization of MCDI trainings, participants, disability inclusion assignments, capstone projects, guest speakers, etc.
    • Organize and facilitate work of the MCDI Coaches
    • Provide general organizational support for MCDI
  • Implementation of Mental Health Recommendations from Staff Fellows Provost 2020 Report  – 15% job duty
    • Assist in developing action plan to implement recommendations from Staff Fellows
    • Provide organizational support to implement action plan
    • Work to implement sections of the plan
    • Provide organization and implementation assistance on current and future ADA RCEA and 2021 Staff Fellow’s Mental Health Initiatives, if applicable.
  • Disability Culture Inclusion Trainings:  provide organizational support for the following trainings: 20% job duty
    • Lunchtime Conversation on Equity and Inclusion program
      Disability Culture Awareness Day(s)
    • Annual National Disability Employment Awareness Celebration
      Disability Inclusion Symposium
    • Educational pamphlets on topics of importance to the Disability Community and KU
  • Social Media Communication – 20% job duty
    • Develop social media presence plan for ADA RCEA 
    • Implement daily social media communication plan through Twitter, Instagram, etc.
    • Develop draft of social media policy
    • Explore other social media opportunities
  • Communication with partners – 10% job duty
    • Organize and schedule partner meetings
    • Organize and schedule internal workgroup and team meetings
    • Assist director in maintaining ADA RCEA schedule as well as director schedule
    • Facilitating, organizing, maintain contact/communication with Disability Inclusion groups on campus and in the community
